TEHRAN – The high-profile Munich Security Conference is scheduled to be held in Tehran on Saturday, an event which is considered a victory for the Iranian diplomacy.

The conference will bring together foreign ministers from some European and Middle East countries among other dignitaries.

Wolfgang Ischinger, the chairman of the Munich Security Conference, and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Zarif and an exclusive group of around 60 participants will meet in Tehran to exchange views in an informal setting.

Besides German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his Iranian counterpart, participants also include Afghan Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani, Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim Al-Jaafari, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government Nechirvan Idris Barzani, UN Deputy Special Envoy for Syria Ramzy Ezzeldin Ramzy, Deputy Secretary General of the European External Action Service Helga Schmid, President of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the French National Assembly Élisabeth Guigou and Chairman of the German Bundestag Foreign Affairs Committee Norbert Röttgen, as well as governmental representatives from various Arab states, numerous parliamentarians from European countries and NGO representatives will attend the conference.

The conference will be held at the Institute for Political and International Studies which is affiliated to Iran’s foreign ministry.
